1. How long have you been in the automotive repair industry?
2. How did you get your start?
My first career actually was in the restaurant business, and the summers in AZ are slow, so I started part time doing tire repairs and oil changes to pass the time. I was getting burned out as a chef from 100+ hour weeks, holidays, weekends, etc. And I just had a lot of fun working on cars. I decided to change careers and soon was working for my brother at a repair shop that he was the franchise owner of. It ended up being the best decision I made because that was where I met my now wife of 16 years.
3. What’s your favorite auto repair to complete?
My favorite repair to complete is one that can seem to make a big difference to the customer, and getting them back in their car quickly and surprising them with our efficiency.
4. What’s your favorite type of vehicle to make repairs on?
I don’t particularly have a favorite, I like working on all different makes and models because every vehicle has its own challenges and different nuances which always keeps this job interesting.
5. What are the qualities a Sun Devil Auto technician possesses?
Our technicians have a wide variety of skills to work on all makes and models. They are very efficient and work as effectively as possible to complete the necessary repair quickly. They possess state-of-the-art computer equipment to work on the constantly changing car.
6. What type of training do your technicians need to complete? What’s included in this training?
They need to be able to be proficient and up to date on their ASE certifications. There are also several clinics throughout the year to keep them up to date on various systems and current technology.
7. What’s the most commonly asked question you get about automotive repair? How much does the repair cost and how long will it take?
We understand both of these concerns are very important and will do everything in our power to make the experience as pleasant as possible.
8. If you could dismiss one myth about automotive maintenance/repair, what would that be?
That it is vital to a proper working vehicle to change the fluids on a regular basis. The multitude of moving mechanical parts in both the engine and transmission produce an extreme amount of heat and friction. It is very important to make sure that all of those components have good, clean fluid to properly maintain the necessary lubrication and cooling properties.
9. What is your favorite part of the job? Your favorite part about working for Sun Devil Auto?
My favorite part of the job is being a problem solver. We face many daily challenges, and overcoming those challenges can be very rewarding, especially when a customer smiles at you and says, “Thank you.” My favorite part about working at Sun Devil is that it truly is a family. From my co-workers I interact with every day to the supervisors and the owners. I have never worked at a place that really shows you and lets you know that you are appreciated as the Sun Devil Family does.
10. What’s the number one tip you would provide to car owners about maintaining their vehicles?
To get on a proper maintenance schedule and stick to it. In the long run, it is always better to keep up with maintenance than to wait and have to do an expensive repair.
